Argentina's Consumption Dynamics Marked

Argentina's retail sales show mixed signals. While year-to-date figures are positive, monthly data reveals a downward trend since the start of 2025, with cashless payments on the rise.

Argentina's Consumption Dynamics Marked

Argentina's consumption dynamics have been marked. According to the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC), total sales at constant prices recorded a year-on-year drop of 2.8%. In November, sales in supermarkets, wholesale stores, and shopping malls decreased compared to the same month of 2024. The monthly measurement also fell by 3.8% against October, marking the largest decline since December 2023. However, in the year-to-date, the variation was positive, rising 2.2% compared to the same period in 2024. The truth is that since the beginning of 2025, the trend has consolidated downward, with only four months ending with positive variations. At current prices, sales totaled over $356 million, representing a 13.3% increase from November 2024. Payments in cash: over $83 million (up 1.9% year-on-year). Debit card payments: over $55 million (down 14.7% year-on-year). Credit card payments: over $98 million (up 7.7% year-on-year). Other payment methods: over $119 million (up 55.2% year-on-year).
